“Indians in America are largely invisible. We can walk down the block in any city and never see another Indian. We can watch TV for a week and never see someone like us. We can attend white schools and never learn about our ancestors who were exterminated, our battles won or our connection with the world.
This ledger includes a list of heroes which most people in this country, including our own kids, have never heard of. If you want to know us, know about these people.
On the right is our sacred relative, the buffalo, confronting the seemingly unstoppable train of colonization. The train represents the doctrine of Manifest Destiny, which was meant to “Kill the Indian and Save the Man”. He stops the train with the breath of prayer.”
